What do you do in your role?

My role at Tuwharetoa Health includes the management of the Pakeke Hauora Mai services alongside the role of clinical advisor to the nursing staff.

Pakeke Hauora Mai is a home-based treatment service where the care staff go into the homes of the elderly or disabled and support them with their care needs.

Te Aka Matua – being a hospital support  service, advocating for community clients when they are admitted, introduction of the services to clients who are likely to require home based support services on discharge so that they know they have a choice of care services. Liaising with community social workers NASC and medical staff for the best outcomes for the whanau.

My other role is Clinical Advisor, to support kaimahi to do the best for our whanau in the community. Supporting staff with care planning and risk management, I also support and encourage staff to engage and complete the levels of support work training. Regular training in infection control and medication management for each new staff member. Being available for all staff who may have any clinical questions or concerns.

What do you like about your role?

What I am enjoying most at Tuwharetoa Health is the staff, they are very dedicated and passionate about their day-to-day mahi and always keep the client/whanau at the centre.

How long have you been with Tuwharetoa Health?

I have been working with Tuwharetoa Health for a month, so I am still getting used to the systems.

What made you choose to work in hauora?

In my previous role I respected and valued the voice of the clients and used my knowledge base to support their journey, I see this same philosophy of practice in this service.
