What do you do in your role?

I provide advocacy and support to people in Turangi and Taupo who have disabilities.  In doing this I ensure that individual health and disability needs are met by sourcing appropriate equipment, and helping whanau to access support systems and entitlements.

Together we work towards restoring and maintaining their Mauri.

What do you like about your role?

I really enjoy my role, and especially working in the community and networking with a diverse range of people.

I also like the interaction with colleagues, clients, whanau and networks within and beyond the Tuwharetoa rohe.

How long have you been with Tuwharetoa Health?

I have been working for Tuwharetoa Health since September 2017 (over 4 years).

What made you choose to work in hauora?

I applied for the role with Tuwharetoa Health as Maori Disability Support Kaimahi because the role appealed to my personal ideals.

I have had a lot of past experience supporting my whanau in and around hospitals.

You could say that it was curiosity but mostly my passion and love for our people that drew me to this role.
